50m Pistol (Free Pistol)

In this event, .22 calibre single shot pistols are used on an outdoor range of 50m.  This event demands extreme stability and accuracy and is the ultimate test of pistol shooting precision. This event also is also commonly known as Free Pistol and as the name suggests almost any 22 single shot pistol with open sights may be used.  This includes standard pistols such as those used in the 25m Pistol events.  However pistols with anatomical fully moulded grips and long barrels for increased accuracy (Free Pistols) are normally used. In a 50m Pistol match a time limit of 2 hours is given for unlimited sighting shots and 60 scoring shots.  Similar to the Air Pistol event this allows competitors ample time to focus on disciplined accurate shooting.
